“No,” said the woman, “I rejoice to know that I have a God who can shake the world.”
Apparently we not only have a God that can shake the world but also One who can quiet and
calm the wind and the waves. This very God, who is Lord of the Universe, is who we call “Father”.
Is this important? It should be! It should be on our lips and on our minds day by day as we
find ourselves in times of trial or when we find ourselves in just the normal “changes” that are
happening around us. God is able…God is our King…..God is strong enough to help His children -
these are the tenets of our faith.
I have enjoyed at times the writings of the great preacher, Charles Haddon Spurgeon. In
writing about the Kingdom of God, he mentions the power of the British Empire was so great
at one time that a citizen of that kingdom could find themselves, as he put it, “traveling
through a land that was hostile and in enmity to the English Empire” and yet the citizen would
travel unharmed. Why? Because of the power and protection that stood behind the citizenship of
the traveler.
This is not unlike our own citizenship in the Kingdom of God. God is the King! We are his
sheep and his property. He sees it as his very duty to protect and care for us. How well can
He do this? Well -“even the winds and the waves obey Him”. If we can get a hold of this in our
minds and hearts, then there would be no room for fear.
Our own Education Committee begins each meeting with this saying by Oswald Chambers,
“Beware of worshipping Jesus as the Son of God, and professing your faith in Him as the Savior
of the world, while you blaspheme Him by the complete evidence in your daily life that He is
powerless to do anything in and through you.” And I would add “for you”. True faith in God,
as citizens of the Kingdom, trusts and relies upon the certainty that Jesus is powerful
enough to do all things in and through and for us. May God help us to believe this simple
truth of the Kingdom of which we truly belong!
May God bless you richly,
